Business IT Support - The most notable 5 Improvements That Mary

I don't know if you have seen Mary Portas's most recent programme on Channel 4? In case you run a business you ought to watch it.

She's a lttle bit scary, there is however lots of great business advice buried in there. I've learnt a great deal.

(Sub note: If you are reading this outside of the UK prehaps you are wondering who Mary Portas is. Well, she actually is a retailing celebrity expert who makes those other famous Brit exports, Simon Cowell and Anne Robinson, look cuddly!)

An amount Mary say about Business IT Support?

I do believe she'd be pretty scathing. Itrrrs this that I think she'd say about IT Support.

I've input it in her own words then interpreted it for you personally.

1. "No Old Flannel!" Mary would state that IT Support Companies were hiding behind techno-babble and TLA's (Three Letter Acronyms). I do think she would be right. IT Support Companies must explain software in a way that entrepreneurs can understand. For the majority of businesses computers are certainly not an end in themselves - just a means to a finish.

2. "You what???" That's a phrase you'll hear often if you watch her Show on tv. And she does say it with no less than a 3 question mark emphasis! It's really a kind of catchall phrase that they uses when she thinks individuals are lying, or otherwise being economical with all the truth. I'm not saying that IT Support Companies lie to their clients (though I know a few of them do), but it often Services Companies job the time to explain the full implications to the client.

3. "You do not know - would you?" She says this with a piercing stare and a jabbing finger - very scary. I'm sure you'd probably agree its ok for the IT Support engineer to convey that they have no idea, but they will find out and get to you. It's better that than being misled. But also for some reason the techno nerds like to pretend they are fully aware everything - Mary's advice, and mine, don't!

4. "You can't do that!" That one is said as Mary leans back, face to face hips having a look of shocked amazement to be with her face. It's restricted to occasions when people scrimp. I agree with her computer technology shortcuts more often than not come back to bite you later - I'll allow your own imagination to find out where they BITE!

5. "Where's the personality?" Mary hates bland formula service. She loves personal service along with the engaging personality that comes with it. IT ServicesCompanies are, like a breed, really bad only at that. Let's face it; engineers at IT Support companies have hidden behind technology for days. But actually IT Support is becoming a customer service business. Users need help from someone that is engaging, understanding, communicates well and sorts the problem.
